The sporty answer

FC Bayern’s pros have stopped their negative run – and, unlike the club bosses, responded appropriately to the club’s sporting crisis.

The prehistory: “In this context I would like to remind you of article one of the Basic Law” ( Karl-Heinz Rummenigge). “That is outrageous” ( Hasan Salihamidzic). “That is disrespectful” ( Uli Hoeneß). In a memorable press conference, the three Bavarian functionaries complained about the reporting of the record champion’s current crisis and threatened with legal consequences. The Bayern players on the pitch gave the much better answer to the crisis of the club.

The result: FC Bayern stopped its negative run of four compulsory games without victory. The team won 3:1 (1:0) at VfL Wolfsburg without any major problems and is temporarily second behind Borussia Dortmund. Here you can read the match report.

Boldness vs. reality: “We want to tear something”, Wolfsburg coach Bruno Labbadia had announced before the game. Battle announcements in the direction of the record champion were last rare. Then the negative series began in Munich. With the spectacular press conference the club made itself additionally attackable. The national competition seems to be more rebellious again, the only problem is that Labbadia’s team didn’t go along.

The first impressions: After a good initial phase, Wolfsburg dropped back more and more. Bavaria dominated, Koen Casteels parried several times. The fact that the opposing goalkeeper is the strongest player was a rarity in Bayern games recently.

The lead: The Belgian goalkeeper was powerless in the 30th minute. Mats Hummels provided Robert Lewandowski with a beautiful pass, Thiago let through and the Pole executed from a sharp angle. The 30-year-old finished the Munich goalloss-series after 251 and his own after 351 minutes.

The jubilation: How big the pressure must have been with the Bavarians was to be seen in the seconds after the goal: Lewandowski clenched his hand to his fist, roared towards the fan curve, demanded the cheers of the fans and clapped his team-mates’ hands. It was only the fourth goal of the season for Lewandowski, who scored two of them with a penalty kick. After last season’s eighth matchday, the star striker had already scored nine goals. Shortly after the break Lewandowski increased to 2:0. Check out Jellybean Casino here for more details about their promotions!

The departure: The Bavarians seemed to have the game under control, a higher lead was possible. Then came the 57th minute, which made the one-sided game once again exciting, at least for a short time: Robben caught Elvis Rexhbecaj at the ankle and had to leave the field with yellow-red. The Dutchman had already seen a yellow swallow in the first half. The wolves became more courageous in the majority and came in the 63rd minute by Wout Weghorst to the follow-up goal. The turning point? Rather not.

The decision: The Bavarians wobbled after the Anschluss, Manuel Neuer made confused excursions out of his goal, the uncertainty of the past weeks was noticeable again for a moment. Then Niko Kovac reacted with the substitution of the ball-safe Leon Goretzka for the fast Serge Gnabry. Bayern played more calmly after the match and James Rodríguez put the finishing touches in the 72nd minute.

Realisation of the game: FC Bayern did not play perfectly in Wolfsburg either. However, he responded to the disappointing performances against Mönchengladbach (0:3), Hertha (0:2) and Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League (1:1) with a clear increase in performance. The last criticized Mats Hummels looked much more confident in the defense, conquered several balls and introduced the lead goal. Lewandowski ended his weaker phase at the end of the goal. Kovac radiated calm. The Munich team will again be able to attack the top of the table and Borussia Dortmund in this form.

The game II: The negative headlines about FC Bayern will probably not end with this game. This is probably mainly due to the aftershock of the memorable all-round blow by the club bosses. Kimmich himself put the topic back in the spotlight after the match and rated the scolding as a “super sign”.
